![]() Chile could take place in some of the injured in Paraguay's supermarket fire for medical treatment, Director of Public Assistance in Santiago Leonardo Ristori said Monday.
Ristori said he had been instructed to offer help to the burnt victims, as Paraguay's hospitals may be crowded with the injured to their capacity.
The official will travel to Paraguay with an expert team to take care of hundreds of the wounded in the supermarket fire on the outskirts of Asuncion.
It will be a 20-member group in charge of a field hospital provided by the Chilean government to Paraguay. Forensic medicine specialists will also join the team for body identification.
They will go aboard two Air Force C-130 Hercules cargo planes loaded with food, medicine and blood.
The blaze in Asuncion broke out when the supermarket was crowded with Sunday midday shoppers. Reports said nearly 1,000 people had been inside the shopping center, which is part of the complex that also houses offices and an underground parking lot.
The death toll has risen to 325 on Monday. The authorities said it may rise further as rescue workers removed the debris and searched for more bodies.
